Urban Life Feed, Inc. Hosts an Annual Cruise to Aid in Scholarship Opportunities Around the World
Urban Life Feed, Inc. (ULF), a non-profit organization that donates funds and
supplies to children across the globe, is approaching the 10th year of
International Community Service efforts on the annual
Ultimate Cruise Experience (UCE) Cruise. We are inviting everyone to be a part
of this year’s, “Educate All Children - Antigua 1000” initiative by donating $10
to the cause. This year’s cruise participants will be sailing the Caribbean Seas
to St. Maarten, Antigua, St. Thomas, and Dominican Republic from
January 2nd – 10th, 2016. They are most eager to present a check to
Grays Crescent Primary School, an elementary school in Antigua, which will
go towards scholarship opportunities for the students.
ULF states that “If 100 people donate just $10 for a total of $1,000, it will
educate a child in Antigua for an entire year! We have partnered our
Urban Life Feed mission with the UCE events to give people an incentive to
want to give back. Charitable donations are at an all time low, and what better
way to get people involved than to combine it with an opportunity to see the
world.” Previous destinations that ULF has supported include
St. Thomas, Barbados, Bahamas, St. Lucia, St. Kitts, among others, as well as
the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
This particular financial need arises from the fact that Antigua continues to struggle from the economic crisis, with many poor and middle class parents losing their jobs. As a result, these parents are often left to choose between paying for their child's education and putting food on the table. The school caters to many of those afflicted since their client base is the lower middle-income group.
About Grays Crescent Primary School:
Miss Catherine J. Chiddick founded the Grays Crescent Primary School on September 14, 1981 in the village of Grays Hill. Miss Chiddick, a devout Christian, has been the principal from inception. She's a very dedicated teacher who has a passion for what she does. She firmly believes that every child can learn and that no child should be left behind.
The school started with a relatively small number of students, but progressively grew over the years. It was a staple in the Grays Green community, (an urban community locally referred to as the ghetto), for over twenty-one years. However, as the need for space arose, a building was constructed, unfortunately, in a different community.
Although it was forced to a new location, Grays Crescent Primary continued to serve the members of the Grays Green Community, as the parents of these children believed in the principles and dedication of the founder and principal, Miss Chiddick. The children always excelled in the National Exams, with an average pass rate of over 90% yearly. Today, the school continues to do well amidst many challenges, and the staff and students challenge themselves daily to follow the school's motto "Aim for Excellence: I Can Do All Things Through Christ.”
